Duke Energy to layoff workers

The company wouldn't confirm how many employees would be laid off.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Duke Energy says it's laying off workers.

In a statement, Duke Energy wrote, "We are reorganizing for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness to deliver smarter energy solutions that are affordable, reliable, and cleaner for our customers and communities. As a result, we expect limited workforce impacts across our service territories."

The utility company wouldn't confirm how many employees are impacted, saying it's part of a transition to clean energy.
