Man Wanted For Randolph County Shooting

Deputies say John Henry Morgan is now wanted for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He has a tattoo on his back of a naked woman and was wearing a gray shirt at the time of the shooting.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies say a man wanted for questioning in a Randolph County shooting is now wanted for the crime.

Multiple warrants were issued for John Henry Morgan, 55, on Monday. Morgan is accused of shooting someone at a home on Branson Davis Road on March 22.

Deputies say Morgan has ties to the Randleman and Asheboro area. He has a tattoo on his back of a naked woman and was wearing a gray shirt at the time of the shooting. He is wanted for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, interference with electronic monitoring device, and failure to report change of address by a sex offender.

The person shot is still in the hospital. No condition information has been released.

The day of the shooting, deputies say they saw a man named Kevin Corum walking away from the home and stopped him for questioning. Corum said he was at the house, but didn't know who shot the person.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, Corum told deputies that his son, Tyler Corum, was still in the house. Tyler Corum would not respond to the verbal commands from the deputies to come out. The Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called and eventually deployed chemical munitions to force Tyler Corum out of the house.

While being questioned, deputies say Corum told them he was asleep during the shooting and had no knowledge of what happened.

The person shot was interviewed at the hospital and told detectives he had gone to the house to collect rent when an argument started and then evolved into a scuffle.  The victim reported being shot from behind by an unknown person.

Investigators served a search warrant on the house and did not locate a firearm, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators say they believe multiple people were at the house when the shooting happened, including John Henry Morgan.
