Tax Deadline Extended For All Those Affected By Tornado

Several Triad counties qualify for an extension on filing their taxes because of the tornado.

The April 18 tax-filing deadline was most likely the last thing on most people's minds following an EF2 Tornado on April 15.

The North Carolina Department of Revenue has offered a month-long extension to all those affected by the tornado.

People who live in Guilford, Alamance, Rockingham, Mecklenburg, and Iredell counties will all automatically qualify. Those who don't live in those counties but were affected will need to submit proof of their damages.

You'll need to submit an NC-5500 form to get the extension. You'll find those at any NCDOR location and on their website. You can submit the form with your tax return, or separately.

Just make sure to submit all of it by May 18th, one month after the original tax deadline.
