1. Y Is for Yesterday by Sue Grafton (Marion Wood/Putnam, fiction, on sale Aug. 22)

What it’s about: In the penultimate book in Grafton’s Alphabet Mystery series, P.I. Kinsey Millhone is called into a case involving the murder of a girl at an elite private school.

The buzz: “Masterful … Prime Grafton,” says Booklist.

2. My First Coach: Inspiring Stories of NFL Quarterbacks and Their Dads by Gary Myers (Grand Central, non-fiction, on sale Aug. 22)

What it’s about: Looks at the strong relationships that NFL quarterbacks such as Tom Brady and Eli and Peyton Manning have with their dads.

The buzz: Football fans jonesing for the new season can limber up with this title.

3. The Room of White Fire by T. Jefferson Parker (Putnam, fiction, on sale Aug. 22)

What it’s about: Parker launches a brand-new series with this thriller about a private detective named Roland Ford on the hunt for an escapee from a mental institution.

The buzz: “Excellent,” says Publishers Weekly.

4. Megafire: The Race to Extinguish a Deadly Epidemic of Flame by Michael Kodas (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, non-fiction, on sale Aug. 22)

What it’s about: A journalist charts the phenomenon of huge, devastating forest fires and those who fight them.

The buzz: This well-timed book arrives on the heels of headline-making wildfires this summer in Europe.

5. To Siri With Love by Judith Newman (Harper, non-fiction, on sale Aug. 22)

What it’s about: Author tells the story of how her 13-year-old autistic son is helped by Siri, Apple’s digital personal assistant.

The buzz: Written with “wit, humor, and effervescent honesty,” says Kirkus Reviews.
