Mary J. Blige's singing interview with Hillary Clinton is beyond awkward

Mary J. Blige interviewing Hillary Clinton for her new Apple Music show, The 411 with Mary J. Blige, seems like a great idea: Two powerful women in their fields appearing on a non-partisan stage for what hopefully will be an honest discussion.

A new trailer for the interview proves it isn't your conventional cable news chat, as Mary J. takes Hillary's hand, looks into her eyes, and starts singing about police brutality.

The moment, and Blige's words, are meant to be inspiring: “If an officer stops you, always be polite, and never ever run away. Promise Mama you’ll keep your hands inside. Is it a gun? Is it a knife? Is it a wallet? This is your life. It ain’t no secret. It ain’t no secret, no secret my friend. You can get killed just for living in your American skin."

Instead, thanks to Blige's all-in sincerity and Clinton's miraculously straight face, the impromptu song is almost too awkward to watch.

Twitter agreed.

And swiftly turned Clinton's reaction into a meme.

Maybe the chat will end up helping Hil after all?

Clinton's full episode of The 411 with Mary J. Blige premieres via Apple Music on Sept. 30.
