The Warriors’ season-saving win in Game 6 has set the stage for a huge Game 7 showdown on Monday night. And while Steph Curry won his second straight MVP, the hero from Saturday night was Klay Thompson.

Thompson knocked down an NBA playoff record 11 3s, and Curry’s inspiring words before the third quarter helped motivate the breakout performance.

“This is your time,” Curry said.

Curry expanded on those comments ahead of Monday’s Game 7 and the great trust he has in Thompson.

Curry said via SFgate.com:

“I knew that those first three minutes, I wouldn’t say necessarily could win us the game, but they could obviously go out and turn that eight-point lead into 15 or 17. Then, you’re pretty much done. Knowing the sense of urgency, I didn’t want to pressure on him, but I wanted to give him that confidence.

“I told him to ‘do what you do.’”

Thompson appreciated that belief from the MVP.

“When the MVP has confidence in you, it means a lot. It gives you a sense of urgency to go out there and play your game and just have fun. It’s easy playing with Steph, because the air of confidence he has about him trickles down to everyone on this team.”

And it obviously paid off as Thompson scored 41 points in Game 6.
